Lorraine asks....
I had highlights in my hair about 5 months ago and the regrowth looks terrible. I would like to dye it back to brown. The hairdresser used meche. As she said it wasn't bleach, is it safe to dye it myself?

Answer by: Gary Sunderland

OH NO!!!

Colouring is one of the most technical of processes and as professional hairdressers it takes years to fully get to grips with the colouring process. What you are suggesting is a colour correction and I would want you to have a fantastic result. Because of this I would advise you to visit a professional salon. I have seen too many disasters in my time from exactly this sort of situation.

Visit a professional and have great looking hair, its better than wearing a hat!
Louise asks....
I have my hair highlighted with an ash blonde bleach and a tint after a few weeks the colour seems to fade leaving me with lots of gold and yellowish tones is their any way of getting rid of the gold tones for good.

Answer by: Beverly C

You need to use a Violet base toner at least every month to neutralize the gold/yellow tones that tend to appear - this is due to pollution and natural gold tones in your hair. Blue Highlighted shampoos are also good for this.
Raziah asks....
I have very wavy hair and a little bit of curls only at the bottom of my hair. I want to know what type of hairstyle would best suit my hair- something where I don't have to worry about setting it.

Answer by: Gary Sunderland

By the sounds of it you have beautiful hair.

If you have to set it then I would suggest getting some soft skimmed internal layers introduced into your hairstyle.

This will reduce the internal bulk and lighten and support your curl.

You would not loose any length yet your curl would become much easier to control and your style would last much longer. Use Tech Ni art by L`Oreal professional Curl memory product.

Apply a little at a time to your hands and work through the hair section by section prior to styling.

Your hair will be fabulous.
Sara asks....
I'm 32 and have always been very blonde; as I have got older I have so much white and grey hair coming through my hair looks very colourless and ashy. I keep going to hair salons and having bad colour done and I feel I need some warmth, but my latest colourist said it would be better cool as I would find warmth brassy. She added too many creamy blonde highlights. I feel it’s now too blonde. Is there a colour you would recommend to add warmth and darken the tone? Can I get the colour done on top of the current highlights?

Answer by: Lee Stafford

I would suggest that you have the blonde broken up with some biscuity dark blondes and light browns. This will give your hair lots of tone and definition, the blondes can stay ashy but by introducing the dark blondes that will give your hair a little warmth too. Make sure you don’t have any more bleach put on your hair unless it is for regrowth as hair breaks if it becomes too over processed. As you are colouring your hair so much, you need to make sure it is always in excellent condition which will help to improve the way it looks even before you have anything else done to it. Grey and white hairs are also coarser than normal hair and so you need to be giving your hair extra special attention.

You need to be using super moisturising shampoos and conditioners for coloured hair, try my Colour Love shampoo and conditioner £3.99 250ml to nurture stressed hair. My Hot Shots For Blondes £6.99 3x 15ml, not only moisturises hair but also targets yellow in blonde hair and stops brassiness by making hair icy bright and baby blonde.
Monica asks....
I am getting married in a few months, and my dress style is A-line with a wedding band collar. Would you please suggest a hair style to match the dress?

Answer by: Charlotte Murray

Sounds very Audrey Hepburn. A classic chignon expertly produced would be a treat. Find a great hairdresser to perform this fabulous hairdo and make sure you have a trial. A beautiful tiara would top off your Hollywood glamour look. Make sure your spouse to be looks as fab as you will. His grooming is as important as yours. Be the A-list couple of the day!
Rahel asks....
I have very black hair. A few months ago I had my hair coloured in streaks to a very light colour. This colouring made my hair very dry. It used to be very shiny before, but now it is very dry. Please help me as I hate the look of my hair.

Answer by: Jason Kearns

I feel for you. It’s going to take time to get your hair back in shape, I would suggest taking your colour back to it's original and then lots of loving care by using treatments and conditioner you might want to look at the Joico Line for products.
Tracy asks....
I am having a party for my 50th and wearing a ball gown, I have shoulder length hair with a fringe, but would like to wear it off my face for a change with a fancy headband with maybe diamantes etc. What do you suggest?

Answer by: Charlotte Murray

Congratulations! If you are going for a fifties inspired look a high ponytail might do the job. Make the "tail" really full by backcombing the underneath, then smoothing the hair over the top. It may really work with your fringe. If that isn't the look you could go for a really wavy half up half down look with a fab hair slide on the side. Have a ball!
Lanie asks....
At the moment I'm at college doing hairdressing and I cannot seem to get the hang of cutting a side fringe please help?

Answer by: Beverly C

Oh that’s a tough one - it is so hard for me to describe this in words because there are so many variations to it - from lengths, hair textures and growth patterns. You really need to ask your top tutor to go through all the options on a mannequin head. Get them to also show you how to achieve it using a razor, as this gives an amazing result.
Sam asks....
I naturally have ash blonde hair and for a couple of years I've dyed it black but I want to go back to blonde without waiting for the dye to grow out because the regrowth look’s really bad. Is there a way I could do it at home because I don't really want to spend heaps of money for a hairdresser to do it?

Answer by: Diane Shaw

I think you are being unrealistic if you believe that you could reverse your hair colour at home with a home kit from black to blonde.

If you want a truly professional look and your hair to remain healthy then I think you could explore any of the following options:

Make an appointment with a reputable colour technician to help you achieve this. You could wear a short hair style and all the new growth would be blonde and healthy. Try a nice wig. Try using hair extensions so as to give the appearance of highlights whilst your hair is growing

I don’t know how long your hair is at present, but if you try to avoid getting it corrected professionally, it could end up costing you a lot more money in the long run. Go see a colour technician for advice, it won’t cost you anything until you agree to have something done to it.

Hope it all works out
