Beyond the Chair

Jason Kearns the talented and artistic hairstylist who regularly helps HairdressersUS visitors with their hair problems in our popular "Ask The Expert" section. Now, he presents his latest creative concept "Beyond the Chair".

They do what they want, when they want. Such is the inspiration behind Jason Kearns' stunning new collection, "Beyond the Chair". A saucy salute to urban beauties who take life as it comes, and create more than a bit of drama for themselves. Wearing little more than a "come hither smile" while perched on an über-modern chair, Kearns' models retell the ageless story of both ultimate power and prettiness.

While Kearns' fine-art approach to feminine power entrances as many women as it does men, this hair master has something even more intriguing up his sleeve: a simple, 1-inch flat iron. Bending, pressing and curling, Kearns uses this humble wand as though it were an arsenal of hot tools to transform recalcitrant hair into flowing locks, and pin-straight strands into compelling bold ribbons.

"Simplicity with one's work is like silence: very few words are spoken, but it still shouts volumes about beauty and the feminine spirit," Kearns reveals. "And what is more simple - or dynamic - than using a single flat iron to create coils, pin curls, ridges, waves, ribbons and, of course, sublimely sleek hair."

Beyond the Chair personifies Kearns' mastery of "less is more." "I created this collection using just one flat iron, two styling aids and one seat of power… a boldly-designed, modernistic chair," he relates with his elegant English accent. "The final effect is one of exquisite feminine beauty-with all its strength and daintiness."
