PUT
TO SHAME AGAIN
|
Isn’t
amazing how perceptive stylists are? Well mine is anyway! On
a recent visit with my other half, I could see her glancing
up at me and frowning whilst snipping away at his locks. Finally,
his lordship looking like a human again, she turned on her heels
and gave me one of her looks, you know, the type of look she
keeps in the freezer for just such occasions. "And what
are they?" she asks, pointing her tail-comb in a very threatening
manner at my head. God, I thought, I knew I should have worn
a hat. "What?" says I. "You know what!"
says she. I knew very well what. She was referring to my hair
slides. "They were a present" I said. "No doubt",
she says "but why are you wearing all 24 of them at the
same time?" She knew, I knew that she knew and she knew
that I knew that she knew, if you see what I mean. "You’ve
been at it again", she says in her best headmistress tone,
that brooked no argument. "I have not", says I. "You
have!" says she, "Yes, she has", pipes up the
other half. (I pull one of my looks out of the freezer and turn
it on him!) "Get in the chair and get them out!" (She’s
awfully bossy for a pretty girl!) Meekly, defeated I had to
do it. I climbed in the chair and pulled out the slides. Hanging
my head in shame I tamely let her set about putting it right.
To give her credit, she didn’t say a word. She worked in silence,
I sat in silence and he sat with a silly ‘you’ve been caught’
grin on his face. After ten minutes of tutting and several malicious
tugs of my hair she whips off the cape, slaps the slides into
my hands and with one final tut, turns her back on me and attends
to Mrs Robinson’s lilac rinse. I slink out of the chair with
all the grace of a naughty kitten and creep towards the door
thinking I’d got off lightly. She waits until my hand is on
the door handle before calling out in her most authoritative
voice to my other half "And next time she can’t sleep,
keep her away from the scissors!"
Oh well,
if I’m not allowed the scissors I can always stock up on hair
dyes, or perms,

PERFECT
PONYTAILS
|
 |
Last year saw
a huge revival in the humble ponytail (did it ever go away)? And
this year the trend is much of the same. Ponytails, buns and up-do’s
are all still very much in vogue especially for long, sleek hair.
Accessories are kept simple, one scrunchy or plain slides used sparingly
to keep it chic. If it’s a sleek style you’re after try using a
styling cream, pomade or serum to achieve a glossy finish and control
stray ends. Use a covered band to hold your ponytail or try tortoiseshell
hair slides or kirby grips to hold your bun in place.
Not everyone
suits a sleek style though, so if its something a little looser
you’re after, secure your pony with a slim silk scarf, Gucci style,
but keep tendrils to a select few.

TRIED
AND TESTED – HAIRSPRAYS
A top hair
magazine recently tried and tested the latest in flexible hairsprays
so read on and choose for yourself!
UMBERTO
GIANNI BIG AND BEAUTIFUL
This was easy
to direct where it was needed and it dried straight away. It left
hair looking soft and shiny and kept the style in place well for
a short time. Needed an extra spray after a few hours though so
best kept for nights out.

CHARLES
WORTHINGTON DREAM HAIR FLEXI-FIX
Expensive
looking packaging and the nozzle dispensed a very fine mist which
fixed the style perfectly, without leaving it wet. It gave hair
a natural hold and brushed out easily. Definitely worth a try.

SILVIKRIN
FLEXIBLE HAIRSPRAY
A rather old
fashioned looking can but sprayed well and held style. It did
leave the hair slightly wet for a few seconds but didn’t set hard.
Good value for money.

L’OREAL
ELNETTE FLEXIBLE
Plain spray
can but dispensed spray really well and held the hair instantly.
The hair was touchable and pliable, stayed in place for the whole
day and brushed out really easily. Excellent value for money.

SALON SELECTIVES
FLEXIHOLD
This spray
had a fairly strong fragrance and the nozzle dispensed rather
a lot of product. It did give flexible hold and lasted well but
the slightly sweet smell could be off-putting.
