• To fade age spots on your hands, dab them with whitening toothpaste - it’s a cheap alternative to expensive beauty products and it really works!

• Boost your brain power with a refreshing cup of peppermint tea - Japanese studies have shown that it stimulates the mind and improves mental performance.

If you’re stressed, this simple head massage will leave you feeling great.

• Briskly rub your scalp.
• Tap all over your head
• Gently comb your fingers through your hair, shaking away your negative thoughts.
Lose Wheat,
      Lose Weight
It’s now commonly believed that wheat can potentially have a whole host of negative effects on the body-bloating, headaches, tiredness and weight gain. If you think it’s a problem for you check out the book ‘Lose Wheat, Lose Weight Cookbook’ by Antoinette Savill which has 100 easy wheat free recipes that we found really interesting.

Essential Knowledge

With our increasing fondness for all things aromatic here are a few common sense precautions when using essential oils at home.
• Never take internally
• Don’t apply neat oils to the skin, always dilute them in a carrier oil to avoid skin irritation.
• Never put oils near a naked flame as they are flammable.
• Citrus oils should not be used before sunbeds or sunbathing.
• Asthmatics should take are not to directly inhale pure essential oil.
• Essential oils are not suitable for children unless they have been particularly formulated for them.
Always check with supplier first.
• Pregnant ladies should always consult a professional before using essential oils.

Wrinkles? What Wrinkles?

We all want to look younger for longer, so we took some tips from a book by anti-ageing guru Hazel Courteney ‘Ways to to stayer Younger Longer’ - the ultimate alternative A-Z guide to anti-ageing.

• Sugar is the most ageing food you can eat. It triggers an inflammatory response in the body, lowers immune function and ages the skin faster than smoking or sunbathing.

• Sleeping in a totally dark room helps you to stay younger for longer.

• Water re-alkalises your system. The ideal amount is six to eight glasses a day. If you eat four pieces of fruit and four servings of veg every day, this in itself will provide almost a litre of water.

• Essential fats (found in oily fish, seeds and nuts) keep your brain sharper, aid weight loss, reduce water retention and keep skin looking more hydrated.

STOP THE CLOCK!

The last few years have seen the launch of a range of products that can help to repair damage already done to the skin.

In these days when the pressure s on to ‘keep young and beautiful’ some of us need all the help we can get! We particularly like L’Oreal Plentitudes Line Eraser pure Retinol Night ream. Retinol, a pure form of Vitamin A, encourages cell turnover and boosts collagen production helping to keep the skins elasticity. Nivea Visage Anti-Wrinkle Co-Enzyme Q10 Cream is another of our favourites. Extremely affordable it gives the face a dose of the super anti-oxidant mineral co-enzyme Q10, to fight the pollutants that find their way onto the skin. One of the most advanced foundations is Olays Total Effects which protects and repairs your skin, while covering signs of ageing such as fine lines around the eyes and mouth. The key ingredient is Vita Niacin, a vitamin complex which reduces these tell-tale Signs. And don’t forget ~ the neck and hands are often the quickest to show signs of ageing so include these in your daily routine always!

Red or Dead

Red hair is the most ridiculed natural hair shade, yet arguably the most requested colour when it comes to dyeing hair. There are so many different shades of red you can go far, from auburn tints to deep purples, and most hair shades will take from just a temporary hair colour. Although red shades tend to fade quicker than other colours, you can prolong your new colour by using colour protecting shampoos and conditioners.

Q: How can I make my nail polish last longer?

A:
Use oils and creams to take care of your nails but always wash off with a little detergent and a nail brush before you polish, to provide a clean surface for it to attach to. Put on a coat or two of base coat up to the tips and slightly over the edge to seal it. Several thin coats of polish are better than trying to apply one thick coat but always allow each coat to fully harden before applying next. For extra strength and durability use a good top coat. Remember, water is an enemy to a good manicure so do try to use rubber gloves for jobs and keep hands above the water when you take a bath.
