Views & tips from your side of the counter........
It's at this time of year when I always pause for thought and reflect on how much I love Great Britain! Early summer seems to serve a reminder to me of all the traditionally British things we in this country have to enjoy - we've had the Chelsea, the jobs of Wimbledon, cricket on the lawn, and all the little seaside shops are dusting off their winter coats and springing into life. Strawberries and cream, buckets and spades, canal boat trips and English country gardens - I love them all!

Of course we have the Great British weather to contend with - we all know that every planned occasion is going to be threatened with high winds and downpour but what else would we find to talk about? It unites us and shows us how resourceful we can be - the weather is there for us to master, to triumph over, and how grateful we are when the sun actually shines.

I know we all love our annual trips abroad - it's great to recharge the batteries now and again, but this summer, take some time to notice the things around us. How long has it been since you walked along a stretch of our fantastic coastline or visited one of our wonderful historic buildings, strolled around a stately home and enjoyed the peace of the exquisite gardens.

If you get the chance, go along to the village or hold your own little strawberry cream tea party in the garden, and support the Breast Cancer Strawberry team fortnight 26 June - 9 July 2006.

Take out a rowing boat or walk along the sand eating fish and chips. I'm sure most people feel the same way about their own country and why not? The sense of belong is important to us all, our roots are who we are, so celebrate your heritage this year wherever you happen to live - for me, I've invited a dozen ladies to a garden party next week, we're dressing 'Ascot' style, hats and all, I'm bringing out my best, lace tablecloths and china and serving cucumber sandwiches and summer pudding. I've even borrowed some old 1930's records to add to the atmosphere and I for one am looking forward to it enormously. Now all we need is the great British sunshine and everything will be rosy!

With all the beautiful florals at the moment it's an ideal opportunity to wear really 'girly' make-up. Most of us have been wearing neutrals for quite a while, with all the brown, beiges and coffee's that have been around, but these are not really suitable with the pink and red prints that are around.

So put the neutrals away and plump for warmer pinks and subtle reds, damsons, mauves and rose shades for lips and nails. Christian Dior and Bourjois both have some beautiful rose coloured shades at the moment, go for sheers rather than shimmers.
Avoid anything with too much of a 'glittery' feel that won't be appropriate with floral prints. And try the subtle green shades for the eyes - yes, really!

Green as an eye shadow is undervalued, but be careful, you're aiming for subtle, sludgy green-olive is wonderful for most eye colours, creating a really sexy, sultry look and deepening the eye colour and will look fabulous with the damson lipsticks that are popular right now.

Keep blushers on the same palette, using pink rather tan bronze tones - save the bronzers till August when they will look more natural..

As I mentioned recently I've just been to a lovely, big traditional wedding and it was great to see all the women looking fantastic in their finery with all their beautiful make-up and jewellery.

But the thing I noticed most was the wonderful array of perfumes. We all take perfume for granted a little but it struck me just how much of a 'signature' it gives us. People I hadn't seen for years were instantly recognisable to me by their perfume.

It's amazing how many past memories it can conjure up - and it's comforting to think that new perfumes come and go and yet for really big occasions we tend to rely on our faithful favourites.
A niece of mine who shares similar taste to me in perfume had on a scent that I haven't worn in years and immediately I realised how much I still loved it.

So yesterday, I visited my favourite department store and 're-visited' all the perfumes that I haven't worn for a while. Amazingly I still really love most of them and intend to treat myself to at least one of them soon - especially as the taxi driver who took me home commented 'Oooh - you smell lovely!' and even my other half was moved to mention that there was definitely something different about me today' - Have you changed your hair or something? 'Well not quite right but at least it had an impact!
