Well what a disappointment summer has been. I'm no sun-worshipper but the amount of rain we've had is enough to dampen anyone's spirits! Most of the pretty summer outfits I bought have never seen the light of day and I don't think I wore sandals more than half a dozen times.

Perhaps you had it a little better where you were but I doubt it scored highly in the sunshine stakes. Still, as usual, the two weeks we spent on the beautiful south coast were as glorious as ever.

I must say. I'm really lucky when it comes to holiday weather. It doesn't seem to matter what the weather does before or after the annual holiday but we always get beautiful sunshine when we're away. Still it's not really enough to sustain you through months and months of endless rain.

I'm off to a family wedding at the weekend and I'm seriously thinking of wearing a rain coat and thermal underwear. And you can forget the floppy hat - where we live its always windy and it's bound to blow off and land in a puddle. I'll have to make do with some firmly secured hair jewellery.
Not that my hair's anything to look at just now. It seems to be going through another one of its awkward phases again, it won't do a thing I tell it and no amount of 'taming' seems to work. I keep telling myself it's 'hormonal' and that I'll grow out of it, but it's actually been the bane of my life for as long as I can remember. It's just a bigger bane than usual at the moment.

Actually, I can probably blame the weather for that too. Hair like mine that has a tendency to frizz really hates damp, windy weather so it's not surprising really. Oh well, maybe we'll have a dry winter and we can enjoy crisp, frosty mornings and hope for a better year next year!

It seems that 'short' is back in again when it comes to hair this season. I'm sure we're all aware that Posh has had her locks cut 'pixie' style again - I must say, I think it suits her shorter - but it seems its all the rage elsewhere, I've seen several previously long haired celebrities that have had their hair cut into short bobs and at a recent 'do' that

I went to many of the young girls were sporting the same style. My friend has recently sent pictures of her wedding and all four bridesmaids had short, straight bobs each tucked behind the ears. Even my ultra-fashionable niece, who usually wears the longest hair extensions imaginable, had them removed in favour of a shoulder length bob. It is a style I particularly like actually but alas not one that my curly, very fine hair will hold. It's also an easy style to manage for those with relatively straight hair and looks good on everyone except those with a particularly round, full face.

If you do have 'chubby chops' wear your bob longer than the jaw line to draw the eye downwards and have it side parted without a fringe (a fringe makes round faces even rounder).

If your hair is very fine then stick to a really short bob to avoid the ends 'disappearing' and if you have a lot of hair then the choice is really yours, thick hair will hold a sleek, bobbed style very well.

If you do like the idea of having the chop then remember that a bobbed style always looks better when the hair is in tip top condition and able to reflect a shine so it's worth taking a little extra care.

If you're after some great costume jewellery this season you could do worse than look in M&S at the moment. They have a fab new range of chunkier jewellery to go with winter sweaters in absolutely gorgeous colours.

I've fallen in love with so many pieces. I'll need a suitcase to take them home.

The necklaces are really lovely and most have matching items - an idea I always go for. I think I may have to narrow my choices down but if I can't, then they'll come in really useful for great presents at reasonable prices!
